Glens Summer Maintenance Schedule

The Glens Golf Group recently announced their summer maintenance schedule. Preventative golf course maintenance is routine and the summer months are an ideal time, as course attendance is low due to the summer heat. Taking the time to manicure and maintain the course is a must for golf courses, if not the greens would die and golfers wouldn’t be too happy with an unkempt course. The Glens Group strives for each of their courses’ to be in the best shape possible year after year, therefore a little scheduled maintenance will make for happy golfers.

The Glens Group scheduled summer maintenance is as follows:

Shaftesbury Glen Golf Course will be closed for aerification, June 10 and 11. The course will re-open June 12.
Possum Trot Golf Course will be closed for aerification on June 11. The course will re-open June 12.
Glen Dornoch Golf Course will be closed for cart path renovation and aerification June 18-27. The course will re-open June 28.
Heather Glen Golf Course will not be closed due to having 27 holes; 18 are always open with no maintenance issues.

Sun Safety on the Course

Golfers and non-golfers alike look forward to warmer sunnier weather, but with warmer temperature the hotter the sun. We’ve all been there: a long day on the course with the vibrant sun shining down on us at every angle and shot and at the end of the day we realize that we forgot to apply sunscreen and our skin is as red as a cherry. It’s important to keep your body safe while playing golf in hotter climates. The Glens Group has put together a few reminders to keep you safe on the course under the sun:

1. Sunscreen – Always wear sunscreen. Apply a waterproof SPF of 30 or higher before you get to the course and keep the bottle in your golf bag for reapplication. The waterproof formula is great while playing sports because it won’t drip off while your sweating. Also, if you’re not wearing a hat then remember to apply sunscreen to your scalp.

2. Wear SPF sun-protective clothing – In addition to sunscreen, be sure to wear sun-protective clothing on the course. Sun protective gear is designed to block UV rays from getting to the skin. Many retail stores carry a variety of SPF clothing and hats.

3. Wear moisture wicking clothing – Keep the body cool by wearing moisture wicking clothing. Sweat will be pulled up and out of the fabric keeping your body temperature down which is important so your body temperature doesn’t over heat. They even make moisture wicking socks!

4. Drink plenty of water – Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate with water and not beer. Sure, you can have a few on the course, but alcohol dehydrates the body so be sure to double up on the water and not the bourbon.

5. Wear sunglasses – Don’t forget about your eyes! Vision on the course is imperative so don’t neglect your sight. Wear a pair of sunglass that won’t impair your vision or game. If you prefer not to wear sunglass at least wear a hat.

And always, schedule a yearly skin check with your dermatologist. The aforementioned is way cheaper than the alternative.
